Character Education
Developing character is a key part of our offer here at Whiston Worrygoose. We offer pupils a wide variety of opportunities for personal development and this has been an integral part of our work for a number of years. We believe it is possible to have both a rigorous and stretching academic education on the one hand and outstanding wider personal development on the other. Indeed, these and other aspects of the school’s work all contribute to forming well-educated and rounded young adults ready to take their place in the world.
Our offer includes all of the following:
A full competitive sport calendar every Weds night during term time, numerous sports taster events and speakers from a wide range of sports. Whole school campaigns (This Girl Can, Be a Gentleman Campaign), digital leaders, school council, visits to Sheffield University, opportunities to read to the whole school, reading to young children, as strong extra curricular offer including holiday clubs
We run regular charity events such as Harvest festival, Macmillan mornings and supporting local community charities. We also encourage children to volunteer for example at Christmas by visiting a residential care home.
In 2021 we introduced the Whiston Worrygoose Character Awards.
These are awarded at the discretion of the Head teacher to those pupils who have displayed true values – resilience, dedication and teamwork – along with outstanding achievement in their chosen field. Along with sports, these are also rewarded for other areas of School life, such as performing arts, music, art, academia and overall contribution to life at Whiston Worrygoose.
